The Separation of The Egyptian Conjoined Twins, Hassan & Mahmoud
Based on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the separation of the Egyptian conjoined twins, Hassan and Mahmoud will take place on Saturday, 28 February 2009.
A meeting of the Multidisciplinary team headed by HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Minister of Health and attended by HE Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, Chief Executive Officer took place on Saturday 21 February 2009.
After in-depth discussion by the members it was decided to perform the separation as stated on Saturday, 28 February 2009.
HE Dr. Bandar Al Knawy has stated that the separation will take approximately 15 hours and will have seven phases with a 70% success rate. Dr. Al Knawy also held a meeting with Hassan and Mahmoud’s parents and has explained the details of the separation to them. A rehearsal will take place on Wednesday, 25 February 2009.
Based on the directive of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the twins arrived in Riyadh from Egypt on the 10 February 2009.
King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh has become internationally acclaimed for the separation of conjoined twins. Hassan and Mahmoud will mark the twenty-first separation to take place.
